Waclaw (Walter) Kadlubowski, Sr. (1891–1937) of Chicago, Illinois, came from Grodno, Poland in 1911. He was the first to build the Liberty Concertina in 1917 at the International Accordion Company. Wally made concertinas under the International, Schukert, Sitak and Silberhorn names until 1926 when he founded the Star Concertina Company.

Walter became the largest concertina manufacturer in the country until he died in an automobile crash in 1937. He was also an excellent musician and promoter of the concertina.
