Leroy Deering
Hall of Fame – 2001
Leroy Deering (1938–2020) of Palatine, Illinois started playing the concertina at the age of six, learning from his father and using the Silberhorn Instructor books.
Leroy was a dedicated concertina musician and promoter. He faithfully attended concertina jams on Tuesday nights at the Riverbend Restaurant in Cary, Illinois, leading the group of musicians affectionately called “The Riverbend Players.” Leroy also frequently traveled to Art Altenburg’s Concertina Bar in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to perform on Thursday nights. He did a great job playing and joining the other musicians to get the crowd going.
