John Benesh

John Benesh (1912-2007) of Calumet City, Illinois needs no introduction to concertina fans. John’s attendance at a music festival is unsurpassed unless you consider that his wife seldom missed an event too.

John started playing the concertina at the age of 15 and led his band since he was 21. They played in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and even once in California.

John also played the sax, clarinet and drums. His most famous compositions include the Stamp Stamp Polka and In the Garden.
